A gamified approach to make mornings more exciting for kids
Sep 2024 – Nov 2024
Children often struggle to prepare themselves independently in the mornings for school.
How can I utilisecharacter designs & interactive technologies to gamify the going to the school experience and make it more exciting for kids?
To create an app that empowers children to independently prepare for their day through a game-like experiencein the morning, easing the busy routines for both children and parents.
Our target audience encompasses both the children and parent, as children will interact with our app, while parents are supervising them using the app. Our primary target audience are busy working parents and children aged 5–9 years old, those who are attending the primary school.
“I wish my child can prepare herself independently during morning”
“ I want a fun, exciting morning, like a game!”
to strengthen the bond between users and the app, I created a narrative that introduces the characters as fairy school graduates sent to help kids with their morning routines. This backstory makes the characters feel like companions, not just app features. I also implemented a daily streak system, where rewards increase the more days children use the app, creating excitement and anticipation.
I focused on gamifying task completion to make the experience more engaging. The app presents one task at a time with the time limit, with a photo confirmation step using character frames to add a fun, interactive element. Users earn coins every time they complete a task, which they can use to buy costumes for their characters, adding an extra layer of motivation.
